Plot

In the shadow of an unthinkable tragedy, Hiroshi Takagi (Tadanobu Asano) finds himself adrift in a sea of amnesia, his past washed away in the aftermath of a devastating car accident that claims the life of his beloved girlfriend, Ryôko Ooyama (Nami Tsukamoto). A stray glance at a book on dissection sparks an unexpected path to recovery. With the support of his family, Hiroshi resolves to navigate the sterile halls of medical school, trading his confusion for a scalpel and his lost memories for the mysteries of the human body. His journey takes a visceral turn when he and his classmates are assigned the dissection of a young woman. As Hiroshi's scalpel slices through the silence, fragments of his past resurface - a flash of twisted metal, a scream swallowed by the night. The revelation comes crashing down when a familiar tattoo on the cadaver's arm unravels the truth - the body on the slab is Ryôko's. Compelled by a mixture of love, guilt, and obsession, Hiroshi is drawn deeper into the examination of Ryôko's remains, a physical exploration of a love that transcends life and death. The more he delves into her silent secrets, the closer he comes to stitching together the tattered remnants of his own shattered past.
