Venetian Bird (1952)

In the misty veil of Venice, private investigator Edward Mercer embarks on a quest, assigned by a French insurance firm, to track down a gallant Italian, whose wartime heroics in aiding a downed Allied aviator deserve recognition. Or at least, that's what Mercer believes as he disembarks at the ethereal Piazza San Marco, welcomed by the smiling facade of a street photographer, Cassana. His journey takes a dark turn as he stumbles upon his primary contact, lifeless, a victim of a cold-blooded stabbing. His only lead, a mysterious woman named Adrianna, draws him deeper into a labyrinth of danger as he struggles to unravel the truth. Mercer finds himself caught in a web spun by the intimidating police chief Spaloni and a faction of foreign freedom fighters, led by the enigmatic Count Borian and Lieutenant Longo. They wish to puppeteer Mercer in their orchestration of a treacherous coup d’état. As the plot thickens, Mercer finds himself in a high-stakes race across the city's ancient rooftops, soaring above the grand square, where he confronts an unseen adversary.
