Varan (1958)

In the enigmatic valleys of Japan, an elusive species of butterfly is discovered, luring a duo of curious entomologists to delve deeper into the mystery. Their quest leads them to an unmarked lake, where a sudden landslide claims their lives. Yuriko, a determined reporter and sister of one of the deceased, ventures into the mysterious terrain to unravel the truth. Joined by Kenji, another entomologist, and Horiguchi, a fellow reporter, their investigation leads them to a secluded village, and into the heart of an age-old legend. They stumble upon tales of a monstrous creature, whispered in hushed tones by the villagers. Dismissing it as mere folklore, they soon confront the horrifying reality that the beast, Varan, is not a figment of imagination but a living nightmare. Suddenly, Varan, having slumbered in the valley for eons, awakens and embarks on a relentless journey towards Tokyo. The once tranquil valley now trembles under the shadow of Varan, as Yuriko and her team face the earth-shattering truth of the legend's existence.
