Plot

In the sweltering summer of 1969, under the oppressive weight of a dictatorship, young Achileas' quiet life in a small provincial town takes an unexpected turn. His innocent quest to sneak a peek at the bare allure of Brigitte Bardot from atop the cinema wall results in a broken leg, and a trip to the city that introduces him to the mesmerizing world of television. The news of Apollo's moon launch broadcasts from the flickering screen, sparking an obsession in Achileas that dwarfs his earlier fascination. Assembled with his loyal band of friends, the mission evolves to gather enough money for their own television, their ticket to witness the historical event. However, their camaraderie is tested when a tantalizing dilemma emerges – should they invest in a television or surrender to the seductive allure of Uranya, a woman rumored to unlock the mysteries of love? The plot thickens when Achileas' father, along with a friend's father, are arrested to maintain a facade of peace for Spiros Agnew's impending visit. Undeterred, the boys agree to distribute Greek and American flags, a political act that promises funds for their coveted television. But disappointment eclipses Achileas' world when he discovers their savings have been pilfered by his friends for more 'sensual' pursuits. Salvation arrives in the form of a town eccentric, who brings a television named Uranya to the local café, setting the stage for a bizarre viewing of the Apollo launch. Meanwhile, the once-beloved local cinema remains hauntingly empty, mirroring the town's shift from simple pleasures to grand illusions. 'Uranya' weaves together threads of innocence, betrayal, and resilience against a backdrop of political turmoil and the dawning of a new technological age, capturing the bittersweet transition from childhood to the uncertain cusp of adolescence.
