Plot

In the heart of the Joseon era, amidst the intricate webs of nobility and the illustrious world of gisaeng, the tale of Hwang Jin Yi (Ha Ji Won) unfolds – a prodigious dancer, musician, and poet. Born as an illegitimate child of a noble and Heon Keum (Jun Mi Sun), a celebrated gisaeng musician, Hwang Jin Yi embarks on an unceasing quest for artistic perfection, battling against the societal shackles that confine women to a lower status. Her life is a tapestry woven with threads of profound relationships with four significant men. The first, a bittersweet romance with Kim Eun Ho (Jang Geun Suk), a nobleman's son, culminates in a heartrending tragedy. Next, her passionate liaison with Kim Jung Han (Kim Jae Won) concludes, not with joy, but with melancholy. Meanwhile, Byuk Kye Soo (Yoo Tae Joon), an Emperor's relative, becomes obsessively ensnared by her charm, employing every trick in the book, yet failing to win her heart. Amidst this whirlwind of emotions and tumultuous affairs, Hwang Jin Yi finds solace in her devoted bodyguard, Yi Saeng (Lee Shi Hwan), a beacon of unwavering support in her times of need. Simultaneously, she finds herself locked in a dance of rivalry with Bu Yong (Wang Bit Na), who competes not only for supremacy in dance but also for the affections of the men in Hwang Jin Yi's life. Hwang Jin Yi's story is a riveting saga of relentless pursuit, unfulfilled love, and the struggle for artistic excellence amidst societal constraints. This story serves as a mesmerizing dance between passion and pain, art and ambition, love and loss, set against the rich backdrop of the Joseon era.
