Two Bits (1995)

On a sweltering summer day in 1933, the streets of South Philly pulse with life, serving as the backdrop for the tale of 12-year old Gennaro. Living in humble circumstances with his widowed mother, Gennaro's world is intimately intertwined with that of his ailing grandfather. The old man clings tenaciously to his last quarter, a promised gift for Gennaro. A quarter that the young boy dreams of using to buy a ticket to the plush glamour of the new movie theater. However, the passing on of the quarter, much like the impending passing of grandpa's life, is stalled by unfinished business. Tethered to the world by a loose thread of regret and longing, grandpa harbors an unresolved history with a woman from his past. In a desperate bid to bring closure to this chapter of his life, he enlists Gennaro as his emissary. "Two Bits" paints a vivid picture of a young boy navigating the complexities of life, love, and loss, serving as an emissary for his grandfather, all for the sake of a single quarter and the promise of a cinematic dream.
