In the open road of life, Diane's existence is a restless journey of fleeting encounters and drunken escapades, the solitary wheel of freedom turning beneath her as a professional trucker. A life devoid of permanence, her world is suddenly thrown off course when the son she deserted a decade ago, Peter, is thrust upon her doorstep. Her past, in the form of her ex-husband Len, is fatally ill, leaving Peter with no one else to turn to. Peter, a hardened 11-year-old, is brimming with resentment and mistrust, craving the maternal affection he's been starved of. Yet, he is wise beyond his years, knowing better than to seek it from the enigma that is Diane. As the weight of unpaid mortgages looms and the urgency of deliveries press on, Diane is forced to confront the depthless life she's been leading. Caught in a crossroads of responsibility and freedom, a daunting inevitability looms ahead for both mother and son - an impending road trip that will either bridge the chasm between them or widen it irreparably.
