Plot

Henry, an American expatriate adrift in the romantic labyrinth of Paris, exists on borrowed time and hospitality, dispensing wisdom about the fairer sex to the lovesick and naïve. His charm is his currency, lighting up the lives of friends' wives while leaving a trail of smoldering bridges in his wake. His philosophical musings punctuate a life lived on the fringes, and his encounters weave a rich tapestry of life's absurdities. Enter Mona, Henry's wife, a fleeting apparition who recoils at the taste of her husband's bohemian existence and retreats as quickly as she arrives. Henry, an improbable professor, attempts to teach English in the historic town of Dijon, and escorts the son of an affluent Indian to a house of ill-repute. His days are further colored by stints as a proofreader for the Herald Tribune and acting as a lifeline for a friend teetering on the edge of sanity, hopelessly ensnared by a courtesan. Henry's journey is a quest for the sublime, a search for ecstasy amidst the chaos of existence. Will he find his much sought-after bliss in this whirlwind of a life?
