In the heart of Chicago, Danielle Prescott, a determined designer and hardworking single mother, is on the brink of a career breakthrough. As she navigates the challenges of work and motherhood, Danielle decides to return to her quaint hometown of Holly Pines for the festive season, intending to share the cherished Christmas traditions of her past with her young son, Paul. This year, however, the holidays bear an undertone of sadness, as they mark the first Christmas since the passing of Danielle's father, Walter, a man who held the town's festivities close to his heart. Arriving in Holly Pines, Danielle is met with the daunting task of reviving the town's Christmas Festival, a beloved event now in dire need of funds. She soon realizes that the centerpiece of the festival, a charming miniature train ride known as the North Pole Express, has long since ceased operations. Walter, a passionate train enthusiast, had always been the conductor of this magical ride, and its absence feels like another piece of him missing. Determined to restore this piece of her father's legacy, Danielle discovers Walter's collection of electric toy trains, igniting a spark of hope that the North Pole Express can be brought back to life. Danielle's mission leads her to reconnect with Kevin Vaughn, an old acquaintance and the handyman owner of the town's hobby shop. Together, they embark on a quest to find and resurrect the North Pole Express. Despite finding the equipment, the task of getting the train up and running seems near impossible, requiring what Kevin deems a Christmas miracle. As they labor over the task, Danielle and Kevin find themselves drawn to each other, their budding romance as unexpected as it is sweet. Yet, the path to their relationship is strewn with obstacles. Danielle's looming promotion in Chicago, the unresolved feelings of Kevin's ex-girlfriend, Jackie, and the uncertain fate of the North Pole Express all hang in the balance. Whether they can overcome these hurdles and rekindle the magic of the North Pole Express forms the heartwarming crux of "Toying with the Holidays".
