In the heart of Coldwater, Ohio, we meet Scott Murphy, a once revered high school football hero whose dreams of a professional career were dashed by an injury during the climactic Ohio State High School Championship game. Instead of a star-studded career and life with the head cheerleader, Scott finds himself twenty years later with a splinted leg, living a quiet life as a farmer, married to a former band member, Macey, and father to their two daughters. The echoes of his past glory are drowned out by the struggles of his present. His dreams are now of keeping his farm afloat amid failed crops, looming bank obligations and a series of relentless misfortunes. The return of his successful NFL friend Hall, who is now married to Scott's high school sweetheart, and an upcoming game where Scott is to be honored, only intensify his feelings of regret and despair.
