Plot

In the pulsing heart of Los Angeles, Joe Pendleton, a diligent backup quarterback for the city's Rams, is tirelessly preparing for the impending Super Bowl. Along with his best friend and team trainer, Max Corkle, Joe lives by the mantra of physical strength and mental harmony, even using the soothing notes of a soprano saxophone as his unique relaxation technique. Despite the media's attempts to stoke rivalry fires between him and Tom Jarrett, the team's star player, Joe remains steadfast, viewing his real competition as the opposing team rather than his teammate. As Joe's dedication pays off and he's named the starter for the crucial game, a twist of fate occurs. While cycling through a tunnel, he's seemingly killed in a collision with a truck. However, this premature death is the result of an overzealous celestial 'escort,' who whisked Joe from the scene to prevent him from being hurt, not realizing that Joe was destined to miss the truck and live for another fifty years. With Joe's body already cremated, Mr. Jordan, the escort's superior, is left with the complex task of locating a suitable body for Joe's displaced spirit. The unlikely solution comes in the form of wealthy industrialist Leo Farnsworth, recently murdered by his adulterous wife and her accomplice, his trusted aide. Now, Joe must navigate the treacherous waters of Farnsworth's ruthless business world while avoiding the murderous duo's repeated attempts on his 'new' life. As he seeks to transform Farnsworth's unfit body into the athletic physique of a quarterback, Joe's plan to return to his old life takes an unexpected turn. He falls in love with Betty Logan, a passionate English environmental activist fighting against Farnsworth's environmentally damaging factory in her hometown of Paglesham, England. This newfound love, coupled with his desire to thwart his killers and reclaim his position on the Rams, reshapes Joe's perception of his second chance at life. Now, he must convince Max Corkle of his true identity and lead his team towards Super Bowl glory, all while navigating the complexities of love and business in a body that is not his own.
