Plot

In the rustic expanse of the American west, a man dubbed Thunderbolt (Clint Eastwood) has been living a double life, his middle-aged guise of a preacher concealing his notorious past. His peaceful masquerade, however, is disrupted when a familiar face from his past stumbles upon him. A fortunate encounter with a sprightly young man, nicknamed Lightfoot (Jeff Bridges), provides Thunderbolt with an unexpected escape. United by their shared rogue spirits and a tendency to court trouble, the two form an unlikely alliance, embarking on a journey across the vibrant landscapes of the west. Unbeknownst to them, a deadly chase ensues, with vengeful figures from Thunderbolt's past hot on their trail. As they traverse the open plains, Lightfoot casually suggests a bank heist, inadvertently unveiling Thunderbolt's dark secret. Thunderbolt is a seasoned bank robber, haunted by the ghost of a lucrative heist seven years prior, involving an anti-tank gun and a vault. The loot, half a million dollars stashed behind a school chalkboard, remains untouched, hidden from the world and the surviving members of his former crew. The media's claim that the money had been recovered was a ruse, a sting operation by the police that only succeeded in painting Thunderbolt as a traitor. This revelation sparks a change in their path. Thunderbolt's old crew members, Eddie Goody (Geoffrey Lewis) and Red Leary (George Kennedy), discover the truth about the unrecovered money and Thunderbolt's innocence. Now faced with a complex web of old alliances and newfound friendships, Lightfoot devises an audacious plan. To recover the hidden treasure and strike it rich, they must reunite the old team and repeat the daring heist. As this motley crew navigate their fraught relationships and the perilous task at hand, the question remains - will they manage to recreate the magic of the original heist with Lightfoot in the mix? And more importantly, will their old and new bonds weather the storm, leading them to their elusive fortune? Thunderbolt and Lightfoot's wild adventure is a thrilling ride, filled with suspense, camaraderie, and the tantalizing promise of a hidden treasure.
