Plot

In the sun-drenched backdrop of Cocoa Beach, Florida, a woman named Sherry McGrale finds herself drawn to the same lawn, intoxicated and lost, on the same date for three consecutive years. But who is Sherry? She's a rising star on college campuses, her voice echoing with a haunting song about her rape, her pain piercing the hearts of listeners. Her poignant melody catches the ear of a Los Angeles-based rock magazine, and among its staff is Owen Richardson. Owen's life is entwined with Sherry's in a twisted knot of guilt and past trauma; his older brother was the conductor of the assault that scarred Sherry, and Owen himself was unwillingly entangled in the horrifying act. Driven by a need to confront his own tormenting demons, Owen embarks on a journey to Florida under the guise of profiling Sherry for the magazine. However, the wounds from their shared trauma fester beneath the surface, seeping into and poisoning their present relationships. As Sherry and Owen grapple with their past, a supporting cast of characters - a wise judge, Sherry's devoted manager, and a widow with young children - offer empathetic shoulders and potential lifelines. But can they really heal, or are they forever trapped within the shadow of their past? Amidst the sunny beaches and thriving college scene, 'Things Behind the Sun' unravels a tale of pain, redemption, and the elusive search for healing.
