Plot

Once a dazzling pop-rock star of the 80's, Lupe (35) now hides away in her bathrobe and slippers, her past glory reduced to a faded memory. She made up one half of the band Groenlandia alongside her brother Diego, their first album igniting the charts like a wildfire. Now, Lupe is a prisoner of her own home, her agoraphobia preventing her from stepping out even for the most basic of necessities, like buying ingredients for her pie-making. Trapped in a life filled with mundane chores and the bitter resentment of her teenage son, Pancho (14), Lupe's only solace is her mother, Paquita (65). A superstitious Mexican woman with a heart as golden as the setting sun, Paquita shoulders the burdens of her daughter's life, doing the shopping, soothing her frequent crises, and most importantly, standing in as a mother figure for Pancho. However, the sands of time are running out for Paquita. With the grim realization that she's on borrowed time, her primary concern is to secure her family's future in her absence. Amidst the chaos and monotony, a drastic Day of the Dead ritual becomes their last hope. It serves as a wake-up call for Lupe, teaching her the importance of letting go, of saying goodbye, and preparing her to navigate life's harsh realities without the comforting presence of her mother. "They Are All Dead" is a poignant tale of a family struggling with their past, wrestling with their present, and fearing their future, all while learning to say goodbye.
