Plot

In the heart of New York City, Christopher Emmanuel Balestrero, affectionately known as "Manny," is a humble string bassist playing in the jazzy rhythms of the Stork Club. His life, as modest as his eighty-five dollar a week gig, revolves around his roles as a dedicated husband, father, and devout Catholic. However, the tranquility of his existence is shattered when his wife, Rose, faces daunting dental bills. Driven by the necessity to ease his family's financial strain, Manny steps into an insurance office with the intention of borrowing against Rose's life insurance policy. Here, the mundane transforms into the extraordinary, as Manny is mistaken for a notorious thief who had previously terrorized the office. Despite his innocence, Manny willingly cooperates with the police, only to find himself further entangled in their web of suspicion. The humble musician now finds himself a prime suspect, not just for this crime, but for a series of hold-ups haunting their Jackson Heights neighborhood. The more he seeks to clear his name, the deeper his image sinks in the mire of guilt in the eyes of the law. Engaging the services of attorney Frank O'Connor, Manny and his family are thrust into a relentless pursuit of justice. The Wrong Man is a gripping true story that charts the course of this extraordinary ordeal, as Manny struggles to reclaim his stolen identity. Amidst the quest for vindication, the tale looms over the possibility of lasting damage on the Balestreros, regardless of the outcome. This film paints a vivid picture of an ordinary man's descent into an unwanted underworld, where innocence is lost in the shadow of suspicion.
