Eva is a formal travel writer who lives alone and is shunned by locals, who all seem to hate her. She once had a family, but now she only has a son, Kevin, whom she visits in prison. From the time he was born, Eva was never able to bond with Kevin, and as he grew older she became increasingly convinced that there was something malevolent about him. Kevin's odd and dangerous behavior finally culminates in a shocking act of violence.
