The Window (1949)

In the sweltering heart of a New York City tenement, the Woodry family navigates the labyrinthine life of the urban dwellers. Their nine-year-old son, Tommy Woodry, is a master weaver of whimsical tales, a trait that both amuses and troubles those who know him. His parents, Ed and Mary Woodry, however, are losing patience with his fantastical stories, reprimanding him and demanding an end to his tales. One oppressively hot evening, as the city succumbs to a heatwave, Tommy finds solace on the fire escape outside their apartment - a makeshift sanctuary above the Kellersons' residence. As the night unfolds, Tommy's world is shaken to the core. He inadvertently becomes the silent witness to a chilling scene - the Kellersons, his upstairs neighbors, ruthlessly extinguishing a man's life.
