Plot

In the tranquil seclusion of a meadow above a quaint Vermont town, a startling discovery is made: the lifeless body of a well-dressed gentleman, identified as Harry Worp. The one to stumble upon this eerie tableau is Captain Albert Wiles, a man with a predilection for rabbit hunting, who is immediately engulfed by a wave of guilt, convinced that he accidentally extinguished Harry's life during one of his hunting jaunts. Driven by self-preservation, Captain Wiles decides to conceal Harry's body, believing it to be a more straightforward solution than confronting the authorities with his tale. However, this clandestine act does not go unnoticed. Ivy Gravely, a resolute spinster, spots the Captain and swears to safeguard his secret. Meanwhile, the body of Harry becomes an uncanny social hub, with an assortment of town inhabitants unwittingly stumbling upon it, including a young single mother, Jennifer Rogers, who seems more relieved than shocked at Harry's demise. As the day unfolds, the plot thickens when Sam Marlowe, a struggling artist and another accidental witness of Harry's lifeless form, learns about Captain Wiles' furtive adventure. Together, they embark on a journey filled with revelations that challenge the Captain's initial belief about his role in Harry's death, and the group—Sam, Mrs. Rogers, Captain Wiles, and Miss Gravely—are drawn into a web of intrigue that is as much about unraveling the mystery of Harry's end as it is about friendship, love, and a shared past. As they navigate the labyrinth of their actions and consequences, they must tread lightly to avoid the probing eyes of Deputy Sheriff Calvin Wiggs, the town's embodiment of law enforcement, who could upend their efforts if he uncovers the truth about Harry. In this darkly humorous tale, the trouble with Harry becomes a bizarre conduit for self-discovery, unearthing hidden relationships, and testing the bonds of solidarity and secrecy.
