Plot

In the heart of Montréal lives Leon Bronstein, a seventeen and three-quarter year old high school senior with a peculiar belief - he is convinced that he is the reincarnation of Leon Trotsky, the early 20th century Soviet iconoclast and Red Army hero. This conviction is no mere teenage whimsy; Leon's life events eerily mirror those of Trotsky's, leading him down a path of audacious emulation of his revolutionary predecessor. Leon's convictions are a constant source of exasperation for his businessman father, David Bronstein. In a world where Leon's reality is a hunger strike against his father's non-unionized business, David aims to teach him a lesson. Stripping him of his comfortable private school lifestyle, Leon is cast into a public school - a stark mirror of Trotsky's own educational journey. In this new environment, Leon finds himself in the midst of an ideological battlefield. The school Principal and Vice-Principal, Mr. Henry Berkhoff and Miss Jeanne Davis, rule with an iron fist, their strict rules reflecting a joint dictatorship. Undeterred, Leon rises to the challenge, stirring the embers of rebellion as he attempts to unionize the students against the oppressive school authority. As Leon navigates through the turbulent waters of his senior year, he crosses paths with Alexandra Leith, a twenty-seven year old doctoral law student. Drawing parallels from Trotsky's life, Leon becomes convinced that he is destined to marry Alexandra. This belief, however, is rooted in her perceived role in his life, rather than who she is as an individual. "The Trotsky" is an intriguing exploration of a young man's relentless pursuit of his destiny, his audacious challenge to authority, and his quest to change the world. As Leon's life unfolds in parallel with Trotsky's, viewers are drawn into a captivating blend of history, comedy, and adolescent rebellion.
