Plot

In the unsettling quiet of a widespread blackout, the film The Trigger Effect exposes the fragility of mankind's grasp on civilization when survival hangs in the balance. Suburban couple, Matthew and Annie, find themselves plunged into a chilling world where the lights have ceased to shine and the veneer of civility is quickly stripped away to reveal the primal instincts lurking beneath. An unexpected visit from Matthew's old friend, Joe, stirs a dormant rivalry as they navigate this stark new reality, whilst Annie battles to care for their ailing infant. As whispers of looting ripple through the neighborhood, the men acquire a shotgun for protection, only for Annie to cast it into their pool in an attempt to quell the rising tension. However, the stillness of the night is shattered when they confront a trespasser in their home, leading to a fatal encounter that forces Matthew and Annie to question the safety of their sanctuary. With their home now a battleground, they embark on a nerve-wracking journey to Annie's parents' home, 500 miles away. Their odyssey takes a darker turn when they attempt to siphon gas from an apparently deserted car, only to discover its occupant lurking in the backseat. The Trigger Effect is a stark exploration of humanity's potential descent into savagery when the comforts of civilization are abruptly withdrawn. It poses the chilling question - is this what we mean when we talk about "man's inhumanity to man?"
