The Third Day (1965)

Underneath the cloud of amnesia, a young man named Steve Mallory finds himself emerging from a shattered guard rail onto a desolate rural road, his past a void and his identity a mystery. He soon discovers that he is a wealthy individual, his fortune amassed through wedlock to Alex Mallory, his alluring wife whom he supposedly neglected. Steve is the reluctant captain of a chinaworks factory, Parsons & Co., contemplating its sale while living amidst the enigmatic Parsons family on their grand estate. His life, shrouded in high-stakes corporate drama and domestic intrigue, grows more complex as he uncovers the cause of his memory loss: a violent car crash that left the vehicle submerged in the depths of Jenner River and its other passenger, a vivacious waitress named Holly Mitchell, clinging to life. Steve's absence from the crash site has kept him unlinked to the accident, for now. In the wake of his amnesia, Steve finds himself caught in a web of resentment, manipulation, and hidden connections. Unearthed from his forgotten past are a slew of adversaries, from his working-class origins to the factory floor, including the resentful Oliver Parsons, the lounge performer Lester Aldrich with a mysterious tie to Holly, and a fiery factory worker named Preston. With no recollection of his past deeds, Steve is confronted with a damning portrayal of his character: a ruthless man with a volatile temper. Yet, as he rediscovers love for Alex, he yearns to redefine his identity and make amends for past wrongs. He is determined to navigate the fog of his forgotten life, uncover the truth buried beneath layers of deception, and resist those who seek to exploit his vulnerable state.
