Plot

Evan Jones, an orphaned youth tossed from one foster home to the next, has grown into a discontented college student. He shares his life with his affluent boyfriend, Chris, their love for each other persisting amid a growing tension fueled by their contrasting social and financial backgrounds. A chance encounter at an elderly man's yard sale leads Evan to an old 8mm film camera, a relic that sparks his interest. The old man proposes to teach Evan how to use the camera, leading him back the next week where he meets the man's 43-year-old son, Peter. A bond forms between Evan and Peter, fueled by reels of old 8mm films unearthed from the dusty confines of the garage. The films, portraying the innocent and unguarded interactions between a young Peter and his childhood friend, strike a deep chord in Evan. He finds himself drawn into the simplicity and purity of their on-screen world, living vicariously through the captured moments. His friendship with Peter evolves into a romance, nudging his relationship with Chris towards an inevitable fracture. As Evan navigates this emotional turmoil, he embarks on a quest for self-discovery, grappling with the concepts of family, love and fulfillment. This journey, ignited by the flicker of old film reels, challenges him to redefine his understanding of himself and his place in the world.
