In the heart of a brutal conflict between law enforcement and the underworld, the Leeds family finds themselves entangled when they become the solitary witnesses to a pair of murders orchestrated by the notorious mob boss, Maxey Campos. Initially steadfast in their recognition of the cold-blooded killer, their resolve wavers when their young kin, Donny Leeds, is seized by Campos' ruthless henchmen. Despite District Attorney Whitlock's stern warnings of perjury, the family remains tight-lipped, all except the stubborn, Civil War veteran Grandfather, who chides his kin for shirking their civic responsibilities, regardless of the peril. While Whitlock grapples with the reliability of his key witness, he is left stunned and disoriented when the grizzled veteran mysteriously vanishes on the eve of his vital testimony.
