Adept at bluffing and keeping her true age and abilities hidden, Fern secures two jobs - a custodial role that provides her with a roof over her head, and a restaurant dishwasher post that keeps her fed. She believes she's one job away from starting her savings journey. As she navigates her new life, dumpster diving for necessities and dealing with antagonistic forces like the irascible Mrs. Coleville, she clings to her delicate house of cards. But how long can Fern maintain this precarious existence? And when her carefully constructed world inevitably crumbles, how will she emerge on the other side?
