The Realm (2018)

In the year 2007, Manuel López-Vidal ascends the ranks of Spanish politics, firmly seated as the right-hand man of Frías, the president of the autonomous community, and a prominent member of Spain's governing party. With his wife Inés and daughter Nati, Manuel luxuriates in a lavish lifestyle, respected and revered by his allies - Cabrera, Bermejo, Gallardo, and Fernando. However, the gilded exterior hides a darker reality. Manuel, for many years, has been exploiting his political position, diverting foreign aids and amassing wealth through illicit means with his cohorts. When Gallardo finds himself in the grip of the law, accused of fraud and political corruption, Manuel instructs his friends to maintain a stoic silence, hoping the case will fade into oblivion without fresh evidence. But the façade crumbles when a leaked recording of his personal conversations goes public, exposing his corruption. With the looming elections, the party scrambles to salvage its reputation. Frías begins to distance himself from Manuel, his former allies turn accusers, and an unseen traitor seems to be feeding information to the police. In desperation, Manuel strikes a deal with Alvarado, the party's rising star - handing over any evidence he uncovers in exchange for his freedom. As the sands of time run dry, Manuel launches a frantic race against the clock to unearth evidence that could tarnish his former friends and perhaps shatter the party itself, should he be found guilty in the impending trial. The question remains - can Manuel gather enough evidence to save himself before his own party unleashes its wrath upon him? This is the riveting journey of a man trapped in a web of his own making, spinning frantically to escape his impending doom.
