In the spirit of classics like "Billy Jack", "The Seven Samurai", and "Electra Glide in Blue", "The Rain Makers" portrays the enthralling tale of an eclectic group of individuals, brought together by circumstance to shield the vulnerable from the jaws of unbridled crime. Set in a quaint Arizona town in 1973, the plot orbits around the Freedom Preserve, a commune inhabited by artists, pacifists, and hippies seeking to escape the societal upheaval stirred by the Vietnam War.
Despite their attempts at coexistence, the commune’s peaceful aura is constantly disrupted by the hostile town residents and an oppressive local law enforcement. Their sanctuary is further threatened when a ruthless real estate developer, aided by the town's lead deputy, sets his sights on their land, leaving them defenseless amidst a sea of adversaries. Enter a malicious biker gang, deployed to terrorize and dismantle the tranquil commune.
On the outskirts of this conflict, an intriguing ensemble is formed. Billy, an ex-Special Forces native American, observes the unfolding injustice from a distance. Karen, a local vet with her own clandestine motives, empathizes with the commune. Cole, another ex-Green Beret and Billy’s former comrade, finds himself in the eye of the storm as a new sheriff’s deputy. Art, a local shop owner, and Jerry, a trucker, offer their support to the commune. Paulo, a commune member, struggles to maintain his pacifism, while Ben, a black lawyer, offers his expertise in hopes of a peaceful resolution.
As Ben exposes a nefarious plot involving the deputy, the real estate developer, and the biker gang in a drug trafficking operation, the seven allies reluctantly unite to protect the commune. However, their burgeoning war against the bikers and the corrupt law enforcement is not without its moral dilemmas. The Freedom Preserve community, while thankful, insists the seven abstain from deadly force. In the ensuing battle, the seven must find a way to shield their sanctuary and defend themselves without succumbing to the lethal tactics deployed against them. With survival on the line, they are thrust into a conflict with only one possible victor.
