Plot

In the heart of an upscale Californian neighbourhood, the stunning housewife, Susan Gilvray, is startled by a prowler lurking in her property's shadows. The midnight disturbance prompts her to summon the police, leading to her encounter with Officer Webb Garwood. Despite the prowler's disappearance, Webb finds himself drawn back to Susan under the guise of ensuring her safety. An unexpected connection is unearthed when Webb discovers he hails from the same hometown as Susan, whose marital ties bind her to John Gilvray, a seasoned late-night radio broadcaster. Webb, unable to resist the magnetic pull of attraction, ventures into dangerous territory, igniting a clandestine love affair with Susan. The flames of their forbidden love are quickly extinguished when John's suspicion sparks, forcing Susan to sever her ties with Webb. Stricken but determined, Webb engineers a devious plan to eliminate John from the equation. His scheme triggers a faux-accident, leading to John's untimely demise, an event ruled unintentional at the subsequent inquest. Webb, discontent with his police career, resigns and manipulates his way back into Susan's life through John's brother. Uncovering the imperfections of Susan's marriage and John's infertility, Webb convinces Susan of his innocence. Their love rekindled, Webb and Susan rush to the altar. The joy of their wedding night is overshadowed by a shocking revelation – Susan is four months pregnant. The imminent arrival of their child threatens to expose their past scandal, as they grapple with the challenge of explaining the unexplainable - a pregnancy that predates their union and could unravel their carefully constructed deceit.
