Plot

Living in the shadow of her identical twin sister Audrey, who is perceived as the more charming and outgoing one, Laurel lives a life of quiet desperation. Still at home in their small hometown, she works for their father Frank's art reproduction company, her life a blank canvas marred by solitude and a longing for more. Audrey, on the other hand, flourishes in the city as a real estate agent for a company that specializes in "storybook" properties, living what appears to be a dream life. Their world is shattered when Audrey's life is abruptly extinguished in a tragic head-on collision during one of her visits home. In a twist of fate, everyone mistakenly believes it's Laurel who has passed away. Seizing the unexpected opportunity, Laurel decides to step into Audrey's shoes, hoping to escape her mundane existence and experience life as "the pretty one." But swapping places with Audrey in the city proves more complex than Laurel anticipated. She must navigate through Audrey's intricate work life, personal relationships, and even deal with Audrey's tenant Basel, an online bookseller who inhabits the other half of the duplex Audrey owns. In the midst of this whirlwind, Laurel grapples with her own identity, constantly teetering on the edge of being Audrey and being herself. "The Pretty One" is a poignant exploration of self-discovery and identity. As Laurel learns to wear Audrey's life like a mask, she stumbles upon the value of her own identity, realizing that being 'the pretty one' isn't about physical appearances but about being true to oneself. In the end, Laurel must decide whether to continue the masquerade or embrace her own uniqueness, capturing the essence of a journey that is as moving as it is transformative.
