Plot

Carlton Garrett, the son of baseball legend Kyle Garrett, finds himself locked in a minor league struggle in the sun-soaked city of Corpus Christi. When his grandfather shares the news of his mother's declining health and her refusal to undergo a life-saving heart operation, Carlton's life takes an unexpected turn. His mother, stubborn yet hopeful, insists she won't go under the knife until her estranged ex-husband, Kyle, visits her in Houston. Accompanied by his ex-girlfriend and loyal friend, Lucy, Carlton embarks on a journey to Columbus, Ohio, where his father has been living in the limelight, signing autographs and basking in past glories. Despite the icy silence that has persisted for four years, Carlton must convince his father to return to Texas. However, the question lingers - will Kyle step up to the plate or continue his pattern of evasion that he's so artfully mastered over the years? Amid this drama, Carlton's performance on the field wavers, his relationship with Lucy hovers in a delicate balance, and the real game unfolds off the pitch, testing the strength of familial bonds and the endurance of love. The Open Road intertwines the complexities of a father-son relationship with the struggle of a fading sports career and the echoes of a past romance, making for a gripping tale of hope, perseverance, and reconciliation.
