Plot

In the desolate twilight world of a roadside diner, the lives of those bound to the nocturnal shift unfurl in a medley of loneliness, longing, and lost dreams. The diner's future teeters on the brink of demise under the faltering stewardship of Stu, the owner. His life, marred by alcoholism and infidelity, is attempting a shaky recovery as he navigates a tenuous relationship with his estranged daughter, Jenny. The specter of his addiction lingers, threatening to shatter this fragile bond and the diner's existence. Among the diner's regulars are Jelena, a Serbian mail-order bride turned waitress, now a widow seeking solace in fleeting intimacies. She shares the night shift with Francine, a twelve-year veteran of the diner, living in the shadow of her foster brother Corey's elusive dreams of musical stardom. Francine's life, a carousel of casual relationships with Corey's friends, sees a glimmer of hope in the form of Oliver, a new patron. A former banker turned trucker, Oliver is a man in transit, his life on hold as he grapples with his future direction. In this world that exists between dusk and dawn, these night shift souls are caught in a relentless rhythm of existence. Their lives, a dance between stillness and the rush of life moving at 70mph, is a quest for meaning. In the quiet of their off hours, they wrestle with their place in this world, the desire to remain, and the yearning to escape. "The Off Hours" is a poignant exploration of lives suspended in the limbo of the night, their stories a haunting symphony of human connection and solitude.
