Plot

In the bustling heart of 1884 Yonkers, New York, we find Dolly Gallagher-Levi, a dynamic woman of many talents who has recently found her most profitable endeavor in matchmaking. A twist of irony weaves through her new role, as her own marital experience was far from delightful. Her latest undertaking involves a miserly retail tycoon, Horace Vandergelder, who works his young, timid clerks, Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker, to the brink. When Horace denies them a day of leisure, Cornelius and Barnaby craft a plan to shut the store and steal away to New York. Their mission? To meet and share a kiss with a girl. In the lively streets of New York, Cornelius sets his eyes on Irene Molloy, a young and charming hat-maker. Unbeknownst to him, she is also a prospect for Horace's bridal hunt. As the fate of Horace, Cornelius, and Irene intertwines, Dolly might just find herself reconsidering her stand on marriage, her declarations of disinterest notwithstanding. The Matchmaker spins a tale of irony and romance, set against the vibrant backdrop of 19th century New York.
