Plot

In the dawn of the 20th century, Emily Fox Seton, a woman of intellect but modest means, finds herself accepting a marriage proposal from the much older Lord James Walderhurst. Their union is shrouded in pragmatism; Walderhurst, a widower under the haughty gaze of his domineering aunt Maria - also Emily's employer, is compelled to produce an heir to prevent his family estate from slipping into the hands of his cousin, Alec Osborn and his Anglo-Indian wife, Hester. For Emily, this arrangement offers an escape from poverty. However, as their lives intertwine, unexpected affection blossoms between Emily and James. But their tranquility is short-lived as James is dispatched to India with his regiment, leaving Emily in the company of the Osborns. Claiming to have been sent by James to tend to Emily, the couple's unsettling presence, particularly Alec's volatile temperament exacerbated by an unknown illness, begins to cast a dark shadow over Emily's pregnancy and slowly chases away the household staff. Emily soon finds herself in a chilling realization: the Osborns' intentions are far from benevolent. As she navigates the labyrinth of deception, the plot weaves a tale of suspense and intrigue, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats, wondering what the couple is truly up to.
