Plot

In the sweeping plains of Colorado, young Annie Garriet, her dreamer husband Ross, and their spirited seven-year-old daughter Taylor, find themselves uprooting their lives for a fresh start in the vast landscape of northern California. Their dreams swiftly unravel when Ross, failing to secure employment, abandons his family, leaving them stranded in an unfamiliar territory. Left with no money, no friends, but an unwavering spirit, Annie, Taylor, and their prized racehorse, Tolo, find an unexpected sanctuary in a stud farm. This farm, shrouded in the sternness of its owner Mary Lou O’Brien, also hides personal demons that mirror Annie's own. Thrust into the roles of a ranch hand and stable person, Annie takes the reins of her life, finding hope in the clatter of hooves and the scent of hay. In the face of adversity, Annie decides to challenge her fate by entering Tolo in a high-stakes riding competition, a move that could either lead to a triumphant victory or a crushing defeat. But life throws another curveball when Tolo goes blind from a race illness. Now, Annie must navigate her way through these hardships, striving to prove that even when faced with the impossible, the human spirit can gallop towards hope and resilience. "The Long Shot" is a poignant tale of grit and determination, where the echo of a horse's whinny and the dust of the race track become symbols of a woman’s journey to reclaim her life and dreams.
