In the opulent abode of the late Mrs. Cheyney, a grand charity event is unfolding, attracting the crème de la crème of society. Amidst the glittering throng, the enigmatic Fay, widow to a wealthy man, becomes the object of fascination for both the affluent, elderly Lord Elton and the dashing playboy, Lord Arthur Dilling. As the narrative shifts to the residence of Mrs. Webley, Fay once again ensnares the attention of Arthur and Elton, her allure intensifying for the somewhat pompous Elton. However, when Arthur spies Charles, Fay's seemingly unassuming butler, skulking in the shadows of the gardens, a memory stirs.
