Plot

In the pulsating heart of 1980s Manhattan, disco reigns supreme, its glittering palaces the gathering places for the city's beautiful, the ambitious, and the desperate. Among them, Des McGrath emerges as a cunning low-level club manager, wielding influence over who basks in the limelight and who languishes in the shadows. When he's not orchestrating the club's social hierarchy, Des concocts a deceptive scheme to shake off unwanted female attention, while failing to grant his best friend, ad man Jimmy Steinway, entry into the club. Meanwhile, Alice Kinnon and Charlotte Pingress, two Hampshire College graduates now working as underpaid readers at a publishing house, navigate this vibrant yet volatile world. Charlotte, conceited and opinionated, looks down on their Harvard-attending colleague, Dan Powers, while the demure and naive Alice leans on Charlotte for advice on navigating the club scene. The pair, despite their financial reliance on parental allowances and a lingering doubt about the sincerity of their friendship, embark on a journey of cohabitation with their mutual friend Holly. Alice harbors feelings for Jimmy, but under Charlotte's manipulative persuasion, she sets her sights on Tom Platt, an environmental lawyer whose influence will profoundly shape Alice's life. In contrast, lawyer Josh Neff, who rejects the prevalent sexual games of the disco culture, unwittingly enters their lives, much to Charlotte's dismay. As these characters sway to the rhythm of the disco era, they are all in pursuit of something - love, fulfillment, or simply a break from the mundane. But as the curtain begins to close on the disco age, they are forced to confront a rapidly changing world. Will they adapt, or will they, like the disco they so adore, fade into oblivion? The 'Last Days of Disco' is a poignant exploration of friendship, deception, and the desperate quest for identity in the face of an era's end. Will the disappearance of disco herald the death of their dreams and their connections, or will it simply change the music to which they dance?
