The King Maker (2005)

In 1547, the adventurous Fernando De Gama, a Portuguese mercenary thirsty for vengeance and fortune, embarks on an odyssey to the exotic Orient. His mission: to locate and confront his father's killer. His journey, however, is abruptly interrupted by a savage storm in the Indian Ocean that wrecks his ship and leaves him as the sole survivor. Washed ashore on an unfamiliar tropical beach, he is seized by Arab slavers and brought to the enigmatic kingdom of Ayutthaya in Siam, where he faces a life of servitude. Salvation arrives in the form of Maria, a vivacious Portuguese maiden residing in Ayutthaya with her father. She purchases Fernando from the Arabs, liberating him from his shackles and inadvertently igniting a passionate romance that stirs discontent in her father's heart. As an accomplished warrior, Fernando's skills are soon coveted when the King of Siam wages war on a rebellious pretender from the North, compelling the entire Portuguese colony into service. Fernando's prowess and bravery in battle earn him the King's favor and a coveted position as his personal guard, alongside his gallant Thai friend, Tong. However, danger lurks within the royal court. The King's treacherous wife, Queen Sudachan, plots to assassinate her husband and install her lover on the throne. After several failed attempts, she enlists the help of the nefarious Phillippe - the very man who slew Fernando's father. As the trusted protectors of the king, Fernando and Tong uncover Phillippe's involvement but are unable to arrest him before his demise. They eventually recognize the real traitor - the Queen - but their revelation comes too late to save the King from her venomous scheme. Accused of the King's assassination, Fernando and Tong are arrested and thrust into a deadly fight for survival, orchestrated as entertainment for the malevolent Queen Sudachan and her new king. Their fates now hinge on their ability to survive the queen's deadly game and expose her treachery.
