In the rustic heart of Hickoryville, a small farming community, the Hickory family holds sway. Led by the stern town sheriff, Jim Hickory, and his two muscular sons, Leo and Olin, the Hickorys personify strength and bravado. However, their youngest scion, Harold Hickory, is a stark contrast. Rather than exhibiting physical prowess, Harold is a slender, bespectacled thinker, often overlooked by his robust family and dismissed to the domestic chores. This ingenious inventor is chastised by his family and the town bullies, particularly Hank Hooper, for his lack of brawn and his penchant for crafting clever devices aimed at easing physical labor. The arrival of Prof. Powers Original Mammoth Medicine Show, led by the merciless "Flash" Farrell following Prof. Powers' demise, stirs the town's tranquility. The arrival also introduces Mary Powers, the departed professor's daughter, who captivates Harold at first glance. Yet, Harold's modest self-perception makes him question his worthiness of her affection. Simultaneously, Sheriff Jim collects funds from the townsfolk for an eagerly anticipated dam project, aimed at supporting local agriculture.
