Plot

In the vibrant heart of the Pacific, a compelling saga unfolds. Captain Whip Hoxworth, a man of ambition and audacity, discovers a stowaway aboard his ship, The Carthaginian. Nyuk Tsin, a woman kidnapped from her Haaka village and destined for a Honolulu brothel, is found concealed within a cargo of male Chinese workers bound for Hawaii. Her life takes an unexpected turn when Mun Ki, another passenger, claims her as his wife. This stroke of fortune sees Nyuk Tsin and Mun Ki becoming domestic servants in Hoxworth's household, at the suggestion of Hoxworth's wife. As time passes, Nyuk Tsin earns the affectionate moniker of Wu Chow's Auntie, a tribute to her five sons named after the continents, with Mun Ki's wife in China acknowledged as their official mother. Parallel to Wu Chow's Auntie's growing family business in Honolulu, Hoxworth embarks on his own venture. With a seed crop smuggled from French Guiana and the labor of Japanese workers, Hoxworth founds a flourishing pineapple empire. "The Hawaiians" weaves a captivating tale of two kindred spirits navigating the ebbs and flows of life, their destinies bound by ambition and the sprawling beauty of Hawaii. Through trials and triumphs, their intertwined lives tell a story of resilience and dreams amidst the vibrant backdrop of a tropical paradise.
