In the soulful rhythm of rural living, young Maryann finds herself uprooted from her familiar city life after a tragic orphaning and thrust into the care of her grandparents. In their rustic abode, the tendrils of loneliness begin to wrap around her, leaving the echoes of her former friendships to ring hollow in her heart. Eager to fill the void, she ventures out into the countryside, where she stumbles upon the secluded life of Andy, a frail boy bound to the confines of his room by the chains of a debilitating illness and his wheelchair. Their homes are separated by distance, but their hearts connect in an immediate friendship. Maryann begins to sneak into Andy's room through the window, their bond growing stronger over shared video games and whispered secrets. Andy's world, previously dominated by his mother, the stern Dr. Katherine Young, and his caring father, nurse Richard Young, now has a new ray of sunshine - Maryann. However, this budding friendship is not to bloom in peace. Katherine, protective and curt, disapproves of Maryann's visits, even making an effort to ban her from their home. But Maryann's determination wins over; she continues her secret meetings with Andy, her visits punctuated by the palpable absence of his parents. One fateful day, an unexpected return of Andy's parents leaves Maryann caught in their fortress-like home. Seeking an escape, she descends into the shadowy basement, where she stumbles upon a chilling secret that threatens to shatter the world as she knows it.
