Plot

In the heart-pounding adventure of "The Gun Hawk," Rory Calhoun takes center stage as Blaine Madden, a seasoned gunslinger renowned for his unique and swift brand of justice. After three long years, Madden returns to his hometown, only to find it under the oppressive rule of the Sully brothers. When the brothers fatally harass the town's drunkard, little do they know that they've just murdered Madden's father, prompting a brutal reckoning. Fueled by a thirst for vengeance, Madden takes the law into his own hands, eliminating the Sully brothers. However, his quest for justice leaves him severely wounded by the town's sheriff, portrayed by the stalwart Rod Cameron. With the law hot on his heels, Madden finds himself on the run, escaping to a lawless haven where even the bravest lawmen fear to venture. In this outlaw sanctuary, Madden prepares for what may be his last stand, helped by an ambitious young gunslinger who dreams of emulating his hero. The suspense heightens as the inevitable confrontation approaches, stirring the dust of the Wild West. "The Gun Hawk," penned by the talented Jo Heims, is the swan song of director Edward Ludwig, whose illustrious 50-year career saw over 100 shorts, TV episodes, and features, including the John Wayne hits "The Fighting Seabees," "Wake of the Red Witch," and "Big Jim McLain." This film serves as a testament to Ludwig's prowess, painting a vivid picture of the Wild West where retribution is swift, and justice is personal.
