Plot

In the heartwarming comedy "The Great Diamond Robbery" (1954), we meet Ambrose C. Park (Red Skelton), a diamond cutter's assistant, whose life was defined from infancy by abandonment on a park bench and an unshakeable obsession to find his biological family. This quest for familial connections entangles him in the cunning scheme of crafty lawyer Remlick (James Whitmore), who manipulates a trio - Emmily Drummon (Dorothy Stickney), Duke Fargoh (George Mathews), and Maggie Drummon (Cara Williams) - to masquerade as Ambrose's long-lost kin. Their motive is not familial reunion, but rather a magnificent uncut diamond that they aim to acquire through Ambrose's unsuspecting hands. The plot thickens with comic twists as they plan to have Ambrose cut the diamond, intending to relieve him not only of the precious gemstones but also his illusions of newfound family. However, Maggie, unable to stomach the deception, tips off Ambrose, sparking an exhilarating chase. Despite the whirlwind of events, the movie ends on a high note, with Ambrose overjoyed at the prospect of marrying the woman he once believed to be his "sister." A blend of comedy, suspense, and sentimentality, "The Great Diamond Robbery" promises an entertaining journey of unexpected relationships, hidden motives, and the quest for belonging.
