The Fighting Renegade (1939)

Under the broiling sun of the Mexican badlands, a man known as El Puma, formerly the notorious Bill Carson, guides an expedition through the treacherous terrain. Concealing his true identity, El Puma is on a relentless quest for redemption, seeking the villain who framed him for murder six years prior. Leading the expedition is the scholarly Professor Lucious Lloyd, accompanied by his niece Marian, the sole person capable of deciphering the cryptic Aztec writings in her father's diary. Her father's fate was a tragic one, murdered on a similar expedition, a tragedy that intertwines with Carson's past. However, their journey takes a baleful twist when the professor is found slain, the weapon belonging to El Puma. The murder sends a ripple through the party, particularly affecting Federal Investigator Magpie, an old acquaintance of Carson. He's torn between loyalty and duty, reluctant to believe his old friend could be responsible yet compelled to seek justice. What ensues is a gritty tale of mystery and betrayal as Carson, ever the target of blame, fights to clear his name and bring the true culprit to light. His past as a federal agent, masked under the guise of a Mexican gang leader, guides him through this perilous journey. Caught in a web of suspicion and deceit, he must unravel the secrets hidden within the Aztec inscriptions to prove his innocence and uncover the truth about the murders.
