The Devil's Ground (2008)

Embarking on a solitary journey from California to Bangor, the determined Carrie Mitchel ignores the advice of Jimmy, a gas station attendant, to rest and continues her drive into the heart of the night. Suddenly, the sight of a bloodied teenager, Amy Singer, wandering aimlessly on the road, disrupts her solitude. Offering Amy a ride, Carrie finds herself entwined in a chilling tale of Amy and her Boston University friends - Mike, Greg, Tammy, and Lisa. The group had set off in an RV to the remote Arrowhead, driven by academic curiosity to research the area. Upon their pitstop at a gas station, they encounter Billy, the attendant, who warns them against venturing into a place ominously known as the "Devil's Playground" in Bradford City. Undeterred, they find themselves excavating the site of a tragic mine collapse from 1967 that claimed 239 lives, hoping to uncover remnants of the past. Their initial excitement at discovering preserved bones, presumably of indigenous inhabitants, turns into bone-chilling horror when they unearth teeth with modern fillings and a wristwatch still clasped around a skeletal arm. Suddenly, the realization hits them like a bolt of lightning - the deaths at this site aren't confined to the distant past, but are a terrifyingly recent phenomenon. As fear engulfs them, they understand that they've ventured into a place that's far more dangerous than they could ever have anticipated.
