Plot

In "The Devil's Arithmetic", we follow Hannah Stern, a modern American Jewish teen, who is, at best, indifferent to her religious heritage and ancestral customs. Yet, the tapestry of her life is dramatically rewoven when she is catapulted from the comfort of her contemporary existence to the chilling horrors of a 1941 Nazi death camp. This supernatural journey begins innocently during a Seder feast, a traditional Jewish celebration, where Hannah is asked to perform the simple task of opening the front door. Unbeknownst to her, this act serves as a portal, spiriting her away to an era marred by unparalleled atrocities. Suddenly, she finds herself stepping into the worn shoes of a captive in one of the German death camps, experiencing the Holocaust's horrors with an alarming immediacy. Here, she meets Rivkah, a young girl bearing the weight of the same gruesome reality. Their shared struggle against the monstrous inhumanity around them triggers an unshakeable bond, a beacon of hope in the heart of darkness. "The Devil's Arithmetic" is a poignant tale that explores the Holocaust from the unique vantage point of a reluctant teenager forced to confront history's darkest chapter. As Hannah's initial disinterest in her Jewish roots undergoes a profound transformation, viewers are invited to journey with her, making this not only a story of survival but also a rediscovery of faith and heritage.
