Plot

In the heart of the 1950s, the SS Berwind, an aged Liberty Ship, a relic from the Second World War, finds itself stranded in the picturesque harbors of New Zealand. The sudden demise of its captain, under suspicious circumstances, leaves the ship without a leader, stirring unease among the crew. The nervous tension prompts the ship's steward and cook to abandon the ship, compelling the vessel to enlist the services of a local Maori couple. The ship's parent company also recruits a new captain, the dutiful Edwin Rummill, who grudgingly leaves his position on a luxury cruise-liner to commandeer the Berwind. As Captain Rummill steps aboard the Berwind, he is met with a disheartened group of officers, a rowdy crew, and a ship in disarray. With the ship already three days behind schedule, they set sail without delay. However, unbeknownst to Rummill and his officers, a sinister plot is brewing in the heart of the ship. Hidden amongst the crew, Henry Scott and Leroy Martin, hardened criminals with malicious intent, are scheming to incite mutiny and seize control of the ship. They plan to sabotage the communication equipment, eliminate the remaining crew, and drift across the Pacific to claim a million-dollar salvage fee for the abandoned vessel and its valuable cargo. Concealing firearms in the engine room, they prepare for their deadly coup, while the rest of the ship remains unarmed, save for Captain Rummill, armed only with an antique Luger pistol. As the ship sails further into the vast Pacific, stocked with six months' worth of supplies, the stage is set for a climactic showdown on the high seas.
