The Dead Don't Dream (1948)

As the wild west sun sets, Hopalong Cassidy, known as Hoppy, and his trusted sidekick, "California" Carlson, ride with anticipation to partake in the wedding of their comrade, Lucky Nelson. However, their joyous journey is abruptly interrupted upon reaching the inn, as the wedding is called off. The reason? Lucky's fiancee's uncle, a prosperous gold miner, has mysteriously disappeared. The plot thickens when the missing uncle is found lifeless within the depths of his own gold mine, his existence cruelly snuffed out. This grim discovery marks the beginning of a chilling murder spree. Over the next two nights, each man who dares to stay in the same room previously occupied by the uncle, goes missing, only to be found dead the following morning. Surrounded by a motley crew of potential suspects, Hoppy finds himself tangled in a web of deceit and danger. However, he's determined to unmask the murderer. In a daring move, he announces that the killer lurks among them, sowing seeds of suspicion and fear. In a bid to bait the murderer, he audaciously chooses to occupy the ominous room for the night. As the moon rises over the inn, a deadly game of cat and mouse commences. The walls of the room echo with sinister secrets waiting to be unearthed. Cassidy's trap eventually springs, revealing the killers to be partners in a claim adjacent to the uncle's gold mine. Embarked on a thrilling quest for justice, Hoppy and California must navigate through a maze of treachery to restore peace and honor amongst the living.
