Plot

In the shadowy corners of a quaint, small town, Robert Forrester, a beleaguered designer, seeks refuge from the bustling chaos of New York City and the acid bitterness of his impending divorce from his cynical wife, Nickie. Trading skyscrapers for the serene landscape of Lavigne Aeronautics, Robert's life remains under a cloud of relentless pressure. His solitary solace: the mysterious allure of Jenny Thierolf, a young woman whose isolated existence he secretly observes from the silent depths of the surrounding woods, captivated by her seemingly unblemished happiness. Unexpectedly discovered during his nightly vigil, Robert finds himself drawn into a complex web of emotions when Jenny, rather than being repelled, invites him into her life over a casual coffee. However, as her current relationship with Greg Wyncoop crumbles, Jenny's affection for Robert rapidly intensifies, much to his discomfort. Unwilling to dive into another romantic entanglement, Robert becomes a figure of hatred for Greg's close-knit circle of friends. The situation spirals out of control when a violent encounter leaves Greg unconscious near a river, his subsequent disappearance turning the town's suspicion towards Robert. His life swiftly unravels: a coveted promotion slips from his grasp, he's suspended from work, his only friend, Jack Neilson, deserts him, and his landlord demands his home back. The final blow strikes when Jenny, unable to bear the turmoil, tragically takes her own life. The quiet life Robert sought becomes a maelstrom of accusations and isolation. When he is inexplicably shot in the street, he's convinced of Greg's involvement, but with no one willing to believe him, Robert must navigate the turbulent waters of suspicion and despair alone. In this intense thriller, the tranquility of a small town masks a sinister undercurrent, where innocence is questioned and trust becomes a luxury Robert can ill afford.
