The Christmas Train (2017)

All aboard The Christmas Train, an annual four-day journey from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles, a journey that arrives on the crisp morning of Christmas Day. Among its eclectic passengers this year are two individuals seeking inspiration - Tom Langdon and Eleanor Carter. Tom, a freelance journalist known for his fluffy articles, embarks on this trip to pen a heartfelt tribute to his late father, an ardent train enthusiast. He leaves behind an unimpressed girlfriend, Lelia, an actress, unable to fathom his choice of spending precious holiday time on a train rather than with her. On the same train, Hollywood director Max Powers seeks comfort in his journey home. He hopes the rhythmic clatter of the train wheels would infuse his long-time script doctor, Eleanor, with the spark she needs to write her debut screenplay. Unbeknownst to Max and others, Eleanor and Tom share a past as deep as an ocean and as turbulent as the train's journey. They were war correspondents, partners in both love and work until their paths diverged over Eleanor's desire for stability and Tom's reluctance to follow suit. As the train chugs through the snowy landscapes, old wounds resurface, as do lingering feelings. The once-lovers must navigate through a colorful cast of fellow passengers: Agnes, the quintessential busybody; Misty, the self-proclaimed psychic; and Higgins, a retired train employee mourning his forced retirement. Their journey is further complicated by a young couple eloping against their parents' wishes, an unexpected passenger from Chicago, and a mysterious kleptomaniac lurking in the train's cabins. As the train inches closer to Los Angeles, the duo's past and present collide in a whirlwind of emotion, mirroring their former war correspondent days. Amidst the chaos, they begin to reconnect, their story unfolding under the watchful eyes of their fellow passengers. As the train pulls into Los Angeles on Christmas morning, a blend of Christmas magic and Hollywood enchantment hangs heavily in the air, offering a chance for love, inspiration, and new beginnings.
