Plot

Amidst the humdrum of her solitary existence, Ann, a seasoned entomologist with a peculiar obsession for butterflies, finds her life taking an unexpected turn when she encounters the eerily enchanting Alice at a local mall. Despite her battle with bipolar disorder and the shadows of a troubled past that include a severed relationship with her daughter, Dorothy, Ann finds herself drawn towards Alice's disquieting innocence. As Alice weaves herself into the fabric of Ann's life, a disturbing mother-daughter dynamic takes root. However, as Ann delves deeper into Alice's life, she uncovers a dark underworld of manipulation and deceit. The young girl is not as innocent as she seems, exploiting elderly women for personal gain while serving as a pawn in her mother Monika's unsavory dealings. This revelation unleashes a violent fury within Ann, tipping her precarious mental state over the edge. Simultaneously, Ann finds herself tending to Julie, a neglected young girl from her building, whose mother Claudia is more a neighbor than a parent. Ann cautiously integrates Julie into her life, introducing her to her sanctum - her butterfly room. This room, a treasure trove of delicate specimens, remains a forbidden territory for Julie. But when Julie hints at another girl trapped within, curiosity piques and whispers echo. The Butterfly Room weaves a tale of secrets and obsessions, unravelling the mystery behind the locked door. What does the butterfly room hide? And what will be the consequences when its secrets take flight? Teetering on the brink of suspense and horror, this film leaves viewers to question the true nature of the butterflies that flutter within Ann's world.
