Plot

As the sun blazes over the barren desert, the Carter family embarks on a journey to California. Retired detective Big Bob Carter, his wife Ethel, son Bobby, daughters Brenda and Lynn, son-in-law Doug, and their infant daughter Katy, traverse the wasteland in their trusty trailer. Ignoring the advice of an isolated gas station owner, Big Bob, in his stubborn resolve, drives his family off the main road and into the heart of a forbidden nuclear testing site. The resulting catastrophe leaves their station wagon wrecked, the family marooned in a desolate, unforgiving wilderness. Stricken by their predicament, Big Bob and Doug venture out into the desolate expanse, seeking salvation. Tragically, their quest turns into a nightmare when Big Bob is captured by a depraved member of a nearby dwelling family, untouched by modern civilization and twisted by the harsh desert life. As night consumes the desert, a chilling terror descends upon the Carter family. They find themselves hunted by a band of psychotic cannibals, a remnant of a bygone era, thirsty for the taste of their fear... and their flesh. Encircled by this relentless evil, the Carters are forced to battle for survival, their dream of a peaceful California vacation morphing into a desperate struggle against the savage creatures that the hills have hidden away from the world. No longer a family vacation, their journey becomes a testament to human resilience in the face of unimaginable horror.
